my new friend, Marge

I have a new friend. She may be about 80 years old, but she is precious. And she loves me (actually, she probably tells everyone that). Her name is Marge (how appropriate)  and she is always at the church, but I am not really sure why. I guess she likes to volunteer and feel useful. Anyhow, Marge is about 4 ft tall and I have had to introduce myself to her twice now. I was forewarned about Marge a few weeks ago. People have stories. Apparently she tells everyone her life story everytime she sees them- and Jeremy warned me that she pinches his cheeks all the time. But I think she's precious. This morning she came in my office, gave me a big hug, and told me she loved me. I almost cried. She doesn't even know my name, I don't think. I seriously want to put her into my purse and take her home. Side note: Heather, you and Marge would be bff's for life

Ways to Keep your Sanity

I got this in an email, and I figured I would share:

• At Lunch Time, Sit In Your Parked Car With Sunglasses on and point a Hair Dryer At Passing Cars. See If They Slow Down.
• Page Yourself Over The Intercom. Don't Disguise Your Voice.
•Every Time Someone Asks You To Do Something, Ask If They Want Fries with that.
• Put Decaf In The Coffee Maker For 3 Weeks. Once Everyone has Gotten Over Their Caffeine Addictions, Switch to Espresso.
• In The Memo Field Of All Your Checks, Write " For Smuggling Diamonds"
• Finish All Your sentences! With "In Accordance With The Prophecy."
• Don't use any punctuation
• As Often As Possible, Skip Rather Than Walk.
• Order a Diet Water whenever you go out to eat, with a serious face.
• Specify That Your Drive-through Order Is "To Go."
• Sing Along At The Opera.
• Go To A Poetry Recital And Ask Why The Poems Don't Rhyme?
• Put Mosquito Netting Around Your Work Area And Play tropical Sounds All Day.
• Five Days In Advance, Tell Your Friends You Can't Attend Their Party Because You're Not In The Mood.
• Have Your Co-workers Address You By Your Wrestling Name, Rock Bottom.
• When The Money Comes Out The ATM, Scream "I Won!, I Won!"
• When Leaving The Zoo, Start Running Towards The Parking lot, Yelling "Run For Your Lives, They're Loose!!"
• Tell Your Children Over Dinner. "Due To The Economy, We Are Going To Have To Let One Of You Go."

The First Day (me and Tweety)

Well, as some of you may know, today was my first day on the job. I was a little nervous and apprehensive as most people are on the first day of a new job. However, I had a more animated greeting than most may encounter. Tweety Bird. That's right folks, Tweety Bird. Our sweet HR lady, Tweed, (I'm not making this up) is obsessed with Tweety Bird and rightly so since they share the same name (almost). He was everywhere. Stuffed Tweety, Tweety Mugs, Jamaica Tweety, Picasso Tweety, Tweety jewelry- you get the point. There was even a beautiful ceramic cross with a sticker of, you guessed it, Tweety in the center. It was very hard to concentrate on my 2 hour orientation with all of these Tweety's. But somehow I managed to forge through. And afterward, sweet Tweed invited me to lunch. There was a Tweety steering wheel grip and Tweety floor mats. It made me realize that I needed to find my thing, ya know? But Tweety is already taken, so I will have to look elsewhere.
Compared to this, the rest of my day was pretty mundane and typical. Except when I was told I had to do 500 name tags and a banner  printed by Monday :-)

Considerate Creator?

Hmm this extensive personality test was pretty spot on.
Your imagination, confidence, willingness to explore, and appreciation of beauty make you a CREATOR.
You are independent, and you enjoy your self-sufficiency.
Defying convention, you are very innovative, and you have a vivid imagination.
The look of things is important to you, and you have a keen eye for aesthetic beauty in multiple arenas.
You have a strong interest in what is new and exciting—and that includes forging ahead with new ideas, not simply discovering what is already out there.
You're not set on one way of doing things, and you are creative when it comes to finding novel solutions to complex problems.
You're not one to force your positions on a group, and you tend to be fair in evaluating different options.
You're well-attuned to your emotional state, and not afraid to use your feelings to guide you. You tend to be cooperative, rarely contradicting others, and always considerate of their feelings.
You prefer to have time to plan for things, feeling better with a schedule than with keeping plans up in the air until the last minute.
You trust others, care about them, and are slow to judge them, making you CONSIDERATE.
You value your close relationships very much, and are more likely to spend time in small, tightly-knit groups of friends than in large crowds.
You enjoy exploring the world through observation, quietly watching others.
Relating to others so well, and understanding their emotions, leads you to trust people in general, even though you're somewhat shy and reserved at times.
Your belief that people are generally well-intentioned contributes to your sympathy regarding their problems.
Although you may not vocalize it often, you have an awareness of how society affects individuals, and you understand complex causes of people's behavior.

Welcome to Blogspot

Well, my precious friend, HTS, (aka Heather Tomlinson Skaggs) finally talked me into starting my own blog. Although I am not nearly as witty as she is, I'll give it a whirl. I also figure that since I am about to start a new job that will require an intelligent assembling of words and paragraphs on my part, I better get back in practice, so here goes.
A little current background- I have been living in Orlando with my amazingly, wonderful husband, Jeremy.
I have been working as a designer for a Christian publishing company for the past year, but I recently the Manager of Communications position at our church. I am very excited and slightly terrified, but I know that God would command nothing of me that I could not handle.
Other than that, we have been enjoying our time in the Sunshine State. I mean, where else could you sit by a pool in a tank top in shorts reading a book in January?  We have also had the luxury of visiting the Disney parks multiple times as well as Sea World. Fun Stuff. We are however, always looking for some dear Mississippi visitors to come our way. Any takers?

The Quarter Life crisis

A few weeks ago I hit a big milestone - I turned 25. I mean, I'm almost 30. I am now approaching that era when people my age lie about being younger, not older. Of course I have always been slightly grandmaw-ish in my ways, but lately it has gotten worse. Case in point, last Friday night Jeremy and I were laying in bed at 8:30 (thats right people, 8:30). Not only that, but we were watching the Presidential debates on CNN- very intently I might add. I looked at him and asked "when did this happen?"  Since when did I go from watching MTV to watching CNN? I soon realized that this is a good thing, not a bad thing. Its about time that I really start forming my own opinions about who should be running my country. Barack? Huckabee? Democrat? Republican? My Mississippi upbringing forced the whole conservative, republican views on me and for awhile I was sure those were my views too, but now I am in a case of political limbo. However, when it comes right down to it, I want the candidate that is the most passionate about social justice issues, among other things of course. Luckily, I still have awhile before I have turn in my ballot, so CNN, here I come!
