Leyton says: Life is good

Leyton got a visit from Maddie today. You can see here that he has taken to her very well. He put his head on her shoulder and you can see his little hand propped on her leg, which she apparently liked because she then put hers on top of his (sorry, Jon).  I'm glad Jenna caught his little content grin on camera. Hysterical.

Note: this wasn't staged

Bathtime with the Hulkster

Flexing my guns

Do you want to pinch my cheeks?

Here is a video from this morning. If you watch closely you may catch a little grin or two.

Funny Boy

I got a smile this morning!!! It was precious. Hopefully we can catch a grin on film soon. He also chuckled in his sleep the other day when Jeremy was holding him. I'm so glad we both saw it, otherwise I would have thought I was hallucinating. In the meantime here are a few more pics.

A Tired Puppy Dog?

Miracle on Brancaster

A little background history: Leyton hated the swing we so proudly bought him prior to his arrival. The longest he ever lasted in it was 6 minutes when he woke from a deep sleep screaming. To date, he only naps if being held or bouncing on my knees. I remember reading somewhere that some babies prefer the side to side swing over the front to back (like we have). So yesterday while visiting Jenna and Maddie I decided to try him in her side to side swing, you know just to see. Thanks Maddie, for sharing. What happened shocked me: he stayed in for an hour and a half. No joke. Jenna said I looked awkward sitting there b/c I didn't know what to do with myself. She then offered me a magazine.  I immediately let Jeremy know and he left work early to go to toys r us. Last night he slept for 3 hours in his new toy. Then after eating slept in his bed for another 3 hours. Right now he is in there wide awake looking around gleefully.  I will now have time to shower, eat, read, finish thank you notes (sorry if you are one of those who hasn't gotten a thank-you note yet, I now have no excuse) Here is proof of the miraculous event:

Editing note: I couldn't figure out how to rotate the video so you will have to turn your head sideways. My apologies. You will also have to excuse my hickville accent. I forgot how bad I sound on recordings.

In his new swing

Here are a few more pics. Leyton is now trying really hard to smile. I have gotten a few half grins out of him. I tried to catch it on camera, but I'm sure there will be many more to come soon.

He also has now decided that he really likes bathtime. The other night we began bathing him and I was just waiting for the screaming and flailing that normally ensues, but it never came. What we got was a perfectly content baby. Same thing last night, he was a little fussy before we put him in, but he soon calmed down and looked happy as a lark.

Happy One Month!

my favorite position

I know I am two days late on this, but Leyton turned one month old on Monday! I can't believe it. It has been the best, fastest, most exhausting, rewarding month ever. Looking back at pictures I can't believe how much he has changed in just 4 weeks. Leyton has compiled a list of likes and dislikes below:

LIKES
1. boobies
2. trying to suck my fists
3. laying tummy down on your lap while being bounced (thank you, Gran for introducing this smooth move)
4. riding in the car and stroller
5. being moved/ bounced when I am upset (like my dad who watches ESPN, eats dinner, has a phone conversation, and works on a message at the same time, I have to constantly be stimulated)
6. playing possum (Mississippi slang for pretending to be asleep when you are not.)
7. looking out of the window
8. eating
9. being vocal
10. my gas drops
11. peeing when my diaper is off- such freedom
12. my sling- but only when I am really sleepy. Otherwise, don't even think about it.
13. having daddy suck the boogers out of my nose with the nasal aspirator

DISLIKES
1. my swing- I stay in for 5 minutes MAX
2. my pacifier (this would actually go in a love/hate category, but mostly hate)
3. taking a bath
4. having my diaper changed (unless I am looking out of the window)
5. riding in the car when no one is in the backseat with me
6. being hungry for more than 10 seconds

THINGS I AM DOING NOW
1. I can hold my own head up. And I will pick it and move it if I don't like where it is
2. I am making really funny noises. Some sound like a horse and some sound like a dolphin. very strange. mommy can't decode them.
3. I can now grab hair, lips, clothing, and daddy's chest hair. Did I mention I have a kung-fu grip?
4. I am now sleeping in my bassinet at night for a couple of hours at a time!
5. If I spit up and you wipe my mouth, I will try to eat the burp cloth.
6. The other day, I actually pooped in mommy's hand when she was changing me. This was right after I peed everywhere. Mom says I looked so content when I did it, that I would have had a big grin on my face if I could.
7. I smile in my sleep, alot
8. I also move in my sleep, alot.
9. If I don't like the position you are holding me in, I will kick my legs to let you know to move me.
10. No matter how tight you swaddle me, I will kick it off :)

Top of the morning to ya

Here is our video from this morning. The difference? Peacefulness. That's right, the lion has retracted his claws. Come to find out, our little man probably isn't colicky- he was HUNGRY. Apparently a 30-40 min. breastfeeding session every hour and a half doesn't cut the mustard. We gave him 3 ounces of formula last night just to see and he became a different child. Throughout the night we have been alternating breastfeeding and formula--and he loves us for it.

Also- he slept in his bassinet for 3 hours last night. 3 WHOLE hours.

Enjoy the video.

Kristen Perreault- Photog extraordinaire

Some of you probably know my best friend, Kristen. She is an amazing photographer and is in the process of starting her own photography business (of which I had the pleasure of doing her logo :). She came by the other day and took some pics of Leyton and they turned out fabulous! Check her site at kristenperreault.com and check out the latest Leyton pics at http://galleries.kristenperreault.com/Client%20Proofs password: ALK12122008.

These magic moments...

For you folks back in Mississippi

I promised my mom a few weeks ago that I would post some videos of the little guy as he grew. (they may not be as creative as Bennett's, but they will suffice).  I figure this will help the fam back home feel somewhat closer. To anyone else-I'm sorry if these videos bore you.

This was from 3 days ago- excuse his blowout at the end.

Christmas Eve- this is his typical "waking up" routine. See how quickly he goes from pleasantville to madville?

Leyton's first date

Today Leyton had the pleasure of meeting Madison Grace Hunnicutt, who was born just two weeks after him. Jenna and I had always joked throughout our pregnancies that my little Leyton was going to be the calm one and Maddie was going to be the firecracker. We were proved wrong today though, as my little darling acted like a ferocious lion and Maddie was as sweet and peaceful as a little lamb (and in a very princess-esque manner). He did calm down long enough to lay next to Maddie for this picture. I'm pretty sure they already love each other- I guess we should have let them take things a little slower.

Pimping the Winnie Pooh hat Aunt Glynne got him

Aunt Kristen and Leyton.
I could have a whole other blog about how great of a friend this girl is. She came and visited yesterday for a few hours and it was so nice to have the company. She and Jamie have been there for us every step of the way- She even brought me chocolate and magazines in the hospital (two of the best things ever). Not to mention millions of other things they have done for us. Ya'll are the best!
Sleep = Victory!
Last night was the best night we have had since coming home from the hospital. Jeremy let me sleep from 9:30-12:30 ( I totally missed the New Year, but didn't care) and Leyton slept in 3 hour intervals in between feedings. We hope to continue to be this lucky, but we will see.
